What Is PDR?

Tony Blauer’s Personal Defense Readiness Program has at its core the S.P.E.A.R. System (Spontaneous Protection Enabling Accelerated Response),  which integrates the body’s natural startle-flinch response to danger to a tactical response.

Why Startle-Flinch

The fundamentals of the PDR Program are the “3 D’s”: Detect, Defuse, and Defend. This brings a holistic approach to personal protection.

Detect: Be aware of your surrounding, know where violence often takes place and avoid those those areas if possible or step-up you internal threat detector a notch. Use situational awareness, be aware of what is happening around you.

Defuse: Once a threat is detected, defuse the situation. Avoidance is a great way to defuse, you can’t be attacked if not there. Escape and evasion gets you out of there too. Learn non-violent posture and choice speech to defuse a situation.

Defend: if all else fails, defend yourself. Use the minimum amount of force required to protect yourself and your loved ones.

Notice that in what was described in protecting yourself 66% of it did not involve using force. Using your detect and defuse tools the majority of situations can end without violence
